Launch of Edward B. Westermann’s Drunk on Genocide
The second event in the New Books in Perpetrator Studies Series will be the launch of Edward B. Westermann’s book Drunk on Genocide: Alcohol and Mass Murder in Nazi Germany (Cornell UP, 2021) on 11 November at 18.00 CET.
Drawing on a broad range of newly unearthed materials, Westermann highlights the role alcohol played in the Nazi genocide of European Jews. The book explores the intersections of masculinity, drinking ritual, sexual violence, and mass murder and thus presents a new perspective on the mindset, motivation, and mentality of killers as they prepared for, and participated in, mass extermination.
Doris Bergen and Adam Jones will serve as the book’s discussants and the event will be moderated by Hilary Earl.
