Summer Institute on the Holocaust and Jewish Civilization at Northwestern: Call for Applications

The Holocaust Educational Foundation of Northwestern University invites applications for fellowships to participate in the 27th Annual Summer Institute on the Holocaust and Jewish Civilization at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
HEFNU will follow all Northwestern University COVID protocols in place at the time of the Institute.
Institute Description:
Taught by experts in the field, HEFNU’s renowned Summer Institute is an intensive two-week residential course designed to provide participants the background needed to develop Holocaust courses at their home institutions. HEFNU welcomes full- or part-time academic faculty and staff, full- or part-time Ph.D. students (particularly those in their final year of study), and educators at recognized institutions such as museums and archives.
Fellowships cover the cost of room, board, and tuition. Fellowships do not cover travel expenses or assigned readings. Please inquire about travel funding if your home institution does not cover such costs. Most assigned readings will be available cost-free through the Northwestern University Library.
Application Materials (apply via this online form):
| • | Statement of Interest and Experience in Holocaust Studies including your plans to teach a Holocaust course (500 word maximum) |
| • | CV (1-2 pages, short-form CV) |
| • | Optional (but encouraged): a sample syllabus of a Holocaust, Jewish History, or Jewish Civilization course/exhibition that you have previously taught or planned |
Additional Materials for Graduate Students and Recent PhDs (within 5 years of application deadline):
| • | One Letter of Recommendation required. Applicants must contact recommenders and instruct them to send their letters to hef@northwestern.edu with the subject line “Summer Institute 2023 Recommendation for NAME OF APPLICANT.” Letters should be no more than 500 words (two pages). |
